User Code of Conduct: 

The User Code of Conduct was created to ensure appropriate, respectful behavior by users within HB Studios Sports Centre. The User Code of Conduct applies to all users, participants, tenants, rental groups, guardians, and spectators within the facility. Anyone determined to be breaching the Code of Conduct and conducting themselves with unacceptable behavior may be asked to leave the facility, including a suspension, or termination of day use, rental agreement, or membership. 

HB Studios Sports Centre defines unacceptable behavior as:

  • Willful disregard for facility rules and safety standards
  • Physical violence or threats of violence, including fighting or loud verbal arguments which result in intimidation of other users.
  • Use of obscene, vulgar, or threatening language or gestures to any person in any manner.
  • Willful damage of facility property or equipment, including vandalization.
  • Using equipment or the facility with malicious intent.
  • Discrimination, harassment or bullying is not tolerated. 
    • Discrimination includes actions, statements, behaviors, or attitudes, which could or are commonly known to offend or deny fair treatment based on the protected characteristics stated in the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act (i.e. race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability and pardoned conviction).
    • Harassment includes a series of incidents, or one serious incident of an act(s), comment(s), or action(s) that demean, belittle or cause personal humiliation or embarrassment and any act of intimidation or threaten someone. 
    • Bullying includes any offensive, abusive, intimidating, or insulting behavior that undermines an individual self confidence or minimizes their feelings of self-esteem or self worth
  • The use of camera/video enabled devices in change rooms and washrooms.
  • Lack of supervision of children ages 14 or younger by guardians.

Facility Use Rules

All users, including tenant clients, must abide by the following rules for use of HB Studios Sports Centre (HBSSC). Participant safety is important to us. To maintain the highest levels of safety, and to preserve the integrity of the facility, the HBSSC Staff reserve the right to remove, or deny access to persons failing to comply with any posted safety standards. 

 

General Safety Standards and Terms of Use

  • Treat all employees, others and property with respect at all times. Inappropriate behaviour and language are not tolerated.
  • The use of camera/video enabled devices is strictly prohibited in change rooms and washrooms. In all other areas of the facility, use of these devices is allowed provided it is for personal use only, does not disrupt the activity of others, and is in accordance with the User Code of Conduct and posted Safety Standards. Please be respectful of others: Avoid capturing others in the background of photos.
  • HBSSC is a scent-free facility; we encourage all users to avoid wearing scented products in the facility.
  • Smoking, including vaping on the property or within the facility is not permitted
  • Children ages 0-14 must be supervised by a guardian (aged 18+) at all times.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on the property or within the facility, with the exception of events licensed by NS Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel, and Tobacco Commission and approved by the HBSSC Facility Manager.
  • Spectators (including parents and guardians) must use the seating area upstairs to watch games and training.
    •  Spectators (including parents and guardians) are not allowed on the field or track areas.
  • Vandalization, including graffiti, is not permitted anywhere inside or on facility property. Anyone found marking or vandalizing any surface will be subject to long-term banning from the building and possible legal charges.
  • Pets are not permitted in the building with the exception of registered service dogs under the NS Service Dog Act.
    • Exceptions to this rule are made for pet based rentals at the discretion of the Facility Manager.
  • Horseplay, profanity, and any discrimination, including racist or sexist comments will NOT be tolerated in HB Studios Sports Centre.
  • Users, including tenants may not “prop” any door and should ensure all entrances are secure. 
  • It is the responsibility of rental groups and organizers to ensure the proper supervision of all children and youth (ages 0 - 18), including waiting for all youth to be picked up by appropriate guardians at the end of the rental events.
  • Items left overnight will be removed. HB Studios Sports Centre is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen property.
    • It is the individual users responsibility to take items with them and ensure their items are secured. Lockers are available by the elevator for facility users. 

 

Field and Sprinting Track Safety Standards

  • Only clean footwear is permitted on the field or track. This applies to all users, including players, coaches, referees, and guardian supervisors.
    • If cleats are used in outdoor field play they must be properly cleaned before wear and use inside the facility. 
    • Cleats must be changed into, and cannot be worn while entering the facility.
  • Food or beverages other than water are not permitted on the track or field. This includes gum and/or candy.
  • Appropriate attire for the activity is encouraged.
  • Climbing on netting, support joists, or other affixed areas is strictly not permitted.
  • No spitting on the field or track. 
  • Indoor soccer shoes or plastic molded cleats are permitted on the turf;
    • No metal or screw-in cleats are allowed.

 

Track & Fitness Area Safety Standards

  • The track is for paid users only,
  • Users must be of 16 years of age or older to use fitness areas located around the track. 
  • Children ages 8 years or younger must be accompanied by a guardian (18 years or older) at all times while using the track.
  • Children ages 8-16 must be supervised by a guardian (18 years or older) at all times 
  • Spectating from the track area is not permitted, do not lean on railing or impede others use of the track. Spectating is only to be done in designated bleacher zone. 
  • Only clean footwear is permitted on the field or track. This applies to all users, including players, coaches, referees, and guardian supervisors. Bare feet are not acceptable.
  • Nordic walking poles must have appropriate protective ends.
  • Look both ways before crossing track lanes, do not impede other users.
  • Ensure to follow the daily direction, do not go against the daily direction. Please refer to posted directional signs.
  • Food or beverages other than water are not permitted on the track or fitness areas. This includes gum and/or candy.
  • No spitting on the track or in the fitness area
  • Please do not disrupt or interfere in another users workout.
  • Please wipe down all equipment after use.
  • Report all equipment malfunctions, personal injuries and specific concerns immediately to the Facilities Manager.
  • Users of the HB Studios Sports Centre Fitness Area are doing so at their own risk. HB Studios Sports Centre is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Participation in exercise activity is on a voluntary basis.

 

Change Room & Washroom Safety Standards

  • Climbing on stalls, counters, partitions, or other affixed areas is strictly not permitted.
  • Clothing is required in changing areas / no nudity in shared spaces.
  • Please be mindful of how much time you occupy stalls / or all gender bathroom showers, others may be waiting to use them.
  • No food, beverages or breakable items permitted.
  • The use of camera/video enabled devices is strictly prohibited in change rooms and washrooms. In all other areas of the facility, use of these devices is allowed provided it is for personal use only, does not disrupt the activity of others, and is in accordance with the User Code of Conduct and posted Safety Standards. Please be respectful of others: Avoid capturing others in the background of photos unless permission has been given.

Multipurpose Rooms Safety Standards

  • All garbage must be removed and sorted after use
  • All loaned equipment must be returned to facility staff after use
  • Climbing on counters, tables, chairs or other affixed areas is strictly not permitted.
  • All children (ages 0-14) need to be supervised by a guardian at all times
  • Alcohol is not permitted, with the exception of events licensed by NS Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel, and Tobacco Commission and approved by the HBSSC Facility Manager.
  • Report all equipment malfunctions, personal injuries and specific concerns immediately to the Facilities Manager
  • Tape is not permitted on whiteboards. Tape must be safe for walls. 

Sensory Rooms Safety Standards

  • Children and youth ages 0-18 must be supervised by a guardian (aged 18+) at all times.
  • Climbing on shelving, tables, chairs or other affixed areas is strictly not permitted.
  • Removal of sensory equipment is strictly prohibited. 
  • Report all equipment malfunctions, personal injuries and specific concerns immediately to the Facilities Manager.
  • Food or beverages other than water are not permitted in the sensory room. This includes gum and/or candy.
  • All loaned equipment must be returned to facility staff after use.

 

It is the member’s responsibility to follow all posted rules. Please ask the staff on duty if you have any questions or need assistance. Rules & Regulations are subject to change.
